Eye Clinic Appointment
When your child is first diagnosed you may have left the consulting room wishing you had asked the ophthalmologist more questions about your child's eye condition.
For your follow-up appointment or when ever you attend the eye clinic it would be helpful to make a list of any questions you need answering.
We have made it easy by providing a list of questions for your guidance.
If you would like help in compiling a list relevant to your child's eye condition please contact NBCS for help and advice.
- What is the name of my child’s eye condition?
- How do spell that? Would you mind writing that down for me?
- Is the condition likely to get worse?
- Will special treatment be required – is the condition treatable?
- How much can my child see?
(However, bear in mind it can be difficult for the ophthalmologist to assess how much your child can see in the very early years)
- Would glasses be helpful?
- Is the condition inherited?
- If the consultant believes the condition is inherited: Do we need to see a genetic counsellor?
- Is there anything further I can do to help my child?
- Are there any special techniques I should learn to stimulate my child’s vision?
- Are there special toys which would be helpful?
- Where should we go for more advice and help?
- Is there anything my child should avoid doing, given their condition?
- Have you any information on my child’s condition I can take home to read?
- Who do you refer to next and when should my child next be examined?
