Every child deserves an equal chance

Leave something in your will

It only takes a few minutes to make a will, but a legacy – however small or large – can make a long-lasting difference to the children we support.

NBCS depends heavily on legacies and donations to fund our five key services for children and young people who are blind or partially sighted, to help them achieve their educational and recreational goals

If you have not already written a will, you can use a standard form available from stationery shops or online, or you can amend an existing will by using a codicil form available in the same way or downloadable Codicil form. We advise that you read the  Codicil guidelines before completing the Codicil Form.

Some of the common terms you may encounter include:

  • Estate – is the sum of your assets
  • Charitable bequests – are a distribution from your estate to a charitable organisation
  • General bequests – are legacies left to certain people or charities from the overall value of the estate
  • Specific bequests – are made for a designated purpose
  • Residuary bequests – are made when you leave the residue of your assets after other terms of the will have been satisfied

We recommend that you seek advice from your solicitor when making a will. Charitable donations and legacies are exempt from UK inheritance tax.
